ABOUT THE GOOD SHEPHERD HOME

The Elderly find themselves with much time and no activity leading them to be withdrawn, lonely and depressed, thus bringing about a process of mental and physical deterioration. Many old people do not have health problems and the majority of those over sixty do not have any problems that limit their ability to work, keep house or engage in daily routine activities. The need for and interest in intimacy and affection has no age boundary. In fact many who miss their partners express a higher degree of loneliness. The feeling and the warmth of another person is often undervalued for older person. The capacity to share deep affection may actually improve with age. It is important for anyone who interacts with the elderly to realize that the Elderly are emotionally alive and are sensitive to young people.

It is essential that policy makers understand that age related changes, in learning ability are relatively small. This will help strength their efforts to combat age discrimination. When the old retire, they often suffer a decline in health. By understanding that the lifestyle of the aged are not markedly different from those of other people, we might be more sensitive in our treatment of them and learn to overcome our negative attitude.

Given the increasing number of Elderly and the decreasing number of workers to support each non-worker, we can expect issues like social security; health care cost and support services to become serious concerns. With all that has been said, it is our aim and objective to assistance and help bridge the gap between the young and the old, to provide love and care and a place like home, provide an environment to continue or revive their talents, provide the platforms and encourage discussions on retirement, health, and most important on how to grow old ‘gracefully’.

The Good Shepherd Home was founded to provide home to the Elderly.
